ARCHDIOCESE OF KARACHI
The Archdiocese of Karachi, originally known as the Diocese of Karachi, was erected on 20 May 1948 under the Metropolitan Archdiocese of Bombay, India. It was elevated as the Archdiocese of Karachi on 15 July 1950. The seat of the Archdiocese is St. Patrick's Cathedral. The Christ the King Seminary, the major seminary of the country, is located in the Archdiocese. The Archdiocese has contributed to the welfare of the country through its schools, hospitals, orphanages and other institutions. In 1998, the Archdiocese of Karachi owned 17 English- and 46 Urdu-medium schools for some 40,000 students with about 1,700 teachers.The Archdiocese celebrated its Golden Jubilee on 20 May 1998.Archdiocese of Karachi, was erected on 20 May 1948 under the Metropolitan Archdiocese of Bombay, India. The Christ the King Seminary is a Roman Catholic seminary in Gulshan-e-Iqbal Town, Karachi.Christ the King Seminary in Karachi is the pioneering theological institution for the Catholic Church in Pakistan.Seminaries provide advanced education, ministerial training, and scholarly pursuits for individuals pursuing religious leadership roles or advanced degrees.When the seminary started in 1956 it had only four students. Among them was Archbishop Lawrence Saldanha of Lahore,who later went on to become its Rector. Other alumni include the Archbishop Emeritus of Karachi Evarist Pinto, the late Bishop Anthony Theodore Lobo of Islamabad-Rawalpindi, Joseph Cardinal Coutts, the late Bishop Andrew Francis of Multan, and the late Bishop John Joseph of Faisalabad and the late Bishop Patras Yusaf of Multan.

Notre Dame Institute of Education (NDIE) is under the auspices of the Pakistan Catholic Bishops' Conference and was founded at the initiative of Bishop Anthony Lobo, then auxiliary Bishop of Karachi.Notre Dame Institute of Education (NDIE), the dream of Bishop Anthony Lobo (a Catholic Bishop of Karachi Diocese), was officially opened on October 1, 1991, by Syed Fakhar-e-Imam, the Federal Minister for Education, and blessed by His Excellency, Most Rev Luigi Bressan, the Apostolic Pro Nuncio (an ambassador to Pope John Paul, Rome). While the vision of what NDIE would be was large, it was housed in a very humble building located on the third floor of St. Patrick’s High School Matric building.He persevered until he got who he thought was the right combination of people to work with him and implement his dream.
